About Upsilon Gamma
The UnshAKAble Upsilon Gamma Chapter was chartered on
November 13, 2016, in the Notable North Atlantic Region on the
campus of McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland by twelve
young ladies. They, through their sophomore classmate,
Alexaundria Leonard, appealed to Constance Pizzaro, the North
Atlantic Regional Director, for an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Inc. chapter on their campus. Unfortunately, she was
transitioning from office. However, with Meredith Henderson’s
approval as the new regional director, Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc. became the third National Pan-Hellenic
organization to be chartered on the college’s campus. Rho Xi
Omega Chapter of Baltimore, Maryland was appointed to
supervise the new chapter under the leadership of Soror Patricia
Robinson-Sharpe, the graduate advisor.

Since its chartering, Upsilon Gamma Chapter has worked
diligently to establish its brand both on and off campus. Over the
years, the Chapter has hosted Pink Goes Red events for heart
health, the Mr. 1908 Scholarship Pageant, and collected over
1000 sanitary napkins and nearly 100 flashlights for the Let Girls
Learn initiative in Sierra Leone. They have also served the
Westminster community by volunteering at both the Boys and
Girls Club of Westminster and the Salvation Army of
Westminster. In addition, they have held food and clothing drives
for Carroll County Food Bank and local shelters in Westminster.
Upsilon Gamma Chapter prides itself in fostering meaningful
relationships and being consistent in sisterhood and service.
"One of our basic ideals is love for Alpha Kappa Alpha and for our sisterhood." - Ethel Hedgeman Lyle
